The competition is over and the winner was the apple with the striking pink exterior and the distinctive sweet/tart flavor as the Pink Lady® Apple ‘out-tasted’ the others recently at the International Association of Culinary Professionals Conference (IACP) in Portland Oregon.

Under the direction of GMA Research and the Food Professionals, 60 percent of the votes were for the preferred apple by IACP participants compared to 21 percent for two of the most widely available apples this time of year, Golden Delicious (21 percent) and Granny Smith (19 percent).

The first apple to be marketed with a trademark name, and already known to be a favorite with consumers, doing well at a taste test with the IACP is highly significant.

This is without a doubt the case because this is an international organization of food writers, editors and bloggers, chefs, cookbook authors, food media, cooking schoolteachers and other culinary professionals.

Pink Lady Scores

With Pink Lady® outperforming the other two by a ratio of 3 to 1, at total of 167 participants were included in the test representing a statistically valid sample with a maximum error margin of about 8 percent at a confidence level of 95 percent.

The Pink Lady® Brand Apple rated higher than the Golden Delicious or Granny Smith on all three factors of taste, texture and skin color. And overall, it’s rating by IACP attendees were significantly higher compared to the two competitors.

Interestingly, not all of these food sophisticates immediately identified the Pink Lady® Apples, although they did quickly name the other two varieties. Many insisted they already knew which they preferred but admitted they changed that preference once they tasted all three and selected the Pink Lady® Brand.
